So You’ve Launched a New Website. Now What?

Scout Branding

There’s so much excitement about launching a new website, and once it’s launched, your website is ready and waiting for visitors. When will they start to show up? Sure, Google will crawl and index your website rather quickly, but it will take some time before you’ll start to see those results turn into actual visitors. You may also have an existing audience that will visit your website with some regularity. Is that enough?

You may find yourself asking, “Now what?”

If you’re paying a digital agency to develop your website and they follow best practices, then your website should be placed in a position for digital success.

At Scout Branding, we develop your website on a foundation to perform. The strategy behind our custom websites is not just to make them look great (although, that is a priority). We cover all of the foundational bases to help your website thrive online. This includes detailed planning for things such as a structured sitemap, on- and off-page search engine optimization (SEO), refined content, traffic and SEO analytics, server speed and performance, well-written code and more.

This organic SEO approach takes some time. Organic results do not, and will not, happen overnight. It can take a few months for your website’s online reputation to build after it’s been drastically changed or launched for the first time. This is completely normal. You’ll be able to achieve the results you are looking for, but it takes some patience and work in between.

Until that organic SEO builds up naturally, we suggest implementing a proper marketing push. Your website is ready to perform, but it will benefit from the immediate boost provided by both free and paid digital marketing initiatives.

So, what are some things you can do to get more traffic to your website?

Track the numbers.

The first thing you’ll need to do is connect your website to Google Analytics or some form of tracking software. With these tools in place, you’ll be able to see how many website visitors you’re getting, where they’re coming from, what pages they’re looking at and so much more. It’s valuable data that will let you know if your marketing efforts are working or not.

Share the news.

Once you’ve launched your website, let people know! Share it via email, newsletter or social media, as well as at your office, storefront or wherever your location may be. Launching a new website without any hype is like hosting a party without inviting guests. Who would ever do that? 🥳

Be a social butterfly.

Connect your website to your social media profiles and post new content frequently. If you don’t have any sort of social media, figure out which channels will serve your business best and make an account. Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter are great tools to give your website that extra boost it needs to be recognized by search engine algorithms. Be responsive and interact with your followers as well. The whole purpose of social media is to connect and engage with your audience, so use it to your advantage and make some friends. That way, your content is talking to both search engine bots and real, live people at the same time!

Keep it fresh.

Add fresh and relevant content to your website, especially if you have a blog or news page. This helps with organic SEO. If you’re consistently adding new content to your website with loads of quality keywords, Google will start to see your website as an authority on the topic and will reward you by ranking your website higher in the search results. If your content starts getting old and outdated, you risk being outranked by competitors. Don’t let your content collect digital dust.

Find your cheerleaders.

Encourage your customers, patients or consumers to get involved. Now that your website is launched, ask people to leave reviews on Google, Yelp or Facebook about their experience with your business. When search engines recognize this type of activity, it has the potential to organically push you higher on the search engine results page. If you want to be #1, you’ve got to build your community.

Update now, not later.

We’ve all gotten a notification for an update on our device and hit “later” nearly 100 times. We’re all guilty of this, but do not adopt this habit with your new website. Like any software, websites need attention, love and care, even long after the launch has happened. Updates and backups are very important to keep your website performing properly and securely.

Neglecting these notifications have the potential to cause unwanted red flags that could drop your SEO ranking or get you delisted entirely. This includes things like poor website speed and performance, expired or nonexistent SSL certificates, signs of a hacked website and more. Be sure an IT professional is performing security scans, updates and backups on a routine basis.

Pay to play.

If you’re looking for immediate results, grab your credit card. By participating in paid advertising initiatives, you can easily claim a prominent spot in the digital landscape. This includes paid search engine marketing, display advertising and social media ads on platforms like Google Ads, Facebook and Instagram. Activating paid ads is quicker in nature, but it can be costly depending on your industry and competition. This method is an investment, but the immediate results are definitely worth it.
