UAB Solar House

Built in 2017 as part of the Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon, UAB’s Solar House and Sustainable Community were erected on campus to represent the model for net-zero living in an urban area. Built to withstand the challenges of our local southern environment, the Solar House is a one-of-a-kind energy island, powered by a remote microgrid on site.

UAB partnered with Scout to create a stand-out identity and signage system that will be used as a tool for both education and inspiration, with a desire to showcase the unique features that enable the property to produce more energy than it uses. The resulting icon system is a reminder that living sustainably doesn’t have to be complicated, and that building blocks for the future are already in place.

How can we work together?
